the first straight I purchased was a 5/8 round point from SRD. I can echo many of the sentiments expressed above. Once I discovered vintage straights I gifted my Aust to a user in Korea and, so far as I know, it served him well ever since.

Well made, nice finish, good shavers (that come almost shave ready when you buy direct from him), easy to hone.
My first new razor was 5/8 Ralf Aust and it still serves me well, even though the majority of my razors have now larger blades.
Hence the suggestion to consider a 6/8 instead makes sense to me, as a 6/8 is IMO as easy to use as a 5/8.

Thanked: 96It was my first razor, Aust 5/8 round point. You can't beat them for price, quality and performance. I sent my original to the troops when there was a program set up. Still have 3 6/8. They hold a great edge and are easy to maintain.
