Default Look at what I found while dumping some garbage at the local dump!!!...

The Gillette Toggle Adjustable hit the shaving scene in 1958 as a limited regional test. The patent was first brought about by Meyer J. Shnitzler, Brookline, Edward Michael Lewiecki, Hingham, and Joesph Muros, Newtonville, Mass assignors to Gillette Company, Boston, Mass. A corparation of Delaware. Application November 1, 1955, Serial No. 544,226.
It re-appeared again in 1960 in the third and forth quarter for the Christmas season and then it was to be made no more. The Toggle came in the familiar hard case as well as the lesser known soft case or pouch.
A rare 1958 Gillette Toggle prototype that sports the red dot and the digits 1 through 5 only. I found this and I cleaned and sanitized it cuz it reminded me of my Granddad's. Little did I suspect this is a very rare safety adjustable razor... They go for $500+!!!

Nice find, yes, they are worth a few bucks.

Go easy on the polish, the nickel is pretty thin. Flitz and a soft tooth brush will get in all the knurling, buff with a microfiber.

    Look pretty good already.

I cleaned it with mineral oil then buffed it with a microfiber cloth. I then took it and placed it in 1 part Barbisol and 3 parts water for 2 hrs. I then gave it a good toothbrushing with some WD40, resterilized it, rinsed it and let it sit in mineral oil for a bit and gave it a good wipe down. Can't wait to test drive this puppy!!!

What a find....seen one of those go for $1,200 on eBay...if you're going to get into collecting DE's, you're starting at the top of the summit, and we're all waiting at the bottom.

    Congrats....

I had a prototype toggle, sold it long ago, but mine was gold plated. IIRC the handle is shorter by a bit than the standard toggle. Most important, if that is nickel it is worth even more AFAIK. I can't tell from the photos, but most of them were gold plated, so if it is nickel ....... big bucks.

Now what I don't understand is did you go to the dump and find this on the floor or did you buy it.

Looks like it's in great shape. Keep the polish away form it or it'll take the gold right off it.

Found it in the dump, I was there dropping some bulky things and when I saw something shiny and dug for it and the rest is history!
