Thread: Could anyone please help with dating this Filarmonica?

Someone has been after the blade. It would have had a gold-etch.
I wonder if those scales are not toxic?
I cannot ever remember seeing that color...

Yep, a re-furbed Gen 2. Scales are likely original, the emblem is just paint, foil, or something similar but the scales are embossed for this emblem so it seems unlikely that they would be fake.

There's always so much debate about that post I tapped out over a glass of wine five years ago. I suspect it's because people go straight for the meat without paying attention to the characterization and expectation management I offered at the beginning:

Ok, the number of generations is arguable. I'll call it four distinct periods with caveats. We can see three in this thread. The first point to realize is that there are only two basic Filarmónica models -- the Especial (not initially 'Para Barbas Duras') & Doble Temple. As far as we can tell, all others are variations of the two original models. What is the difference between the two? I could go on and on about miniscule grind differences, profiles, and blade weights, but my personal suspicion is that JMP was just marketing more (Especial) & less (Doble Temple) decorated versions of the same razor.

The second point is that it is not my wish to offend anyone's sensibilities or insult their razors with my descriptions. If you like your razor, then enjoy it in good health...these are just my thoughts.

Third, I won't cover every variation of every marking, scale, box, gold seal, and re-branding lest I be at this all night.

That last highlight can be said for the entire brand of razors. The bottom line was, and still is (in my opinion), steel matters most; since Filarmónica scales are mostly unbalanced, decorative garbage. When they transitioned from one period to the next, they tried out different branding styles until they settled on something they liked and subsequently stuck with. As a result, you're going to see some funky scale markings and stamps during those transition periods, particularly with the 'special editions.' However, the distinguishing concept for each of those "generations" still applies.

Here's what a true first generation Doble Temple 14 looks like, including all the paperwork, this was one of mine a sold a few years back.
