    Further info: The reasoning for the softer(?) steel was that they were issued with a smaller ...240mm/8" X 40mm/1.5" loom strop similar to the "Striech-Riemann" which we have nowadays.
    One side coarse and the other finer. The wedge made for a strong edge, needed in the field.
