Thanked: 2Late 17th early 18th century razor
Thanks a lot for the replies to a post regarding a razor handle found by a metal detectorist. I've managed to find out it is a late 17th century early 18th century ivory razor handle made in the Netherlands.
No maker details yet If I find that I'll post it as well.
Cheers

Thanked: 1184Not to be negative but the length looks proportionally short for a razor if the flat end is a pivot hole broke down the center. Could be wrong, just saying.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

Thanked: 2Good point
Good point. It seems like the ships surgeons were responsible for maintaining hygiene on board. Short handled razors were part of their onboard kit. I've seen a similar handle but one piece, the razor handles were two pieces rivet together, with identical decoration but an angled cut in the handle to house a pointed blade. Saying that at this stage it's still best guess!
