Default Solingen with an Arab? sword on it, any good?

    Hi,

I'm planning on buying this razor, does anyone know this type? I can see it's from Solingen, the brand itself I don't know.

I like the shape and simplistic drawing of it so I was wondering if it would be a nice shaver once honed..

Yup, looks most closely like their "Persian" model/trademark. I wonder if the Arabic on the blade translates to Persian in English.

    The Arabic script reads "Ankara".

Thanks for the translation. That makes a lot of sense considering the close ties between Germany and Turkey particularly in the period prior to WWII and the old Ottoman Empire.

If it is marked Solingen it is usually good no matter who made it. At least the vintage razors are. Not so sure about current stuff, but generally I think they are also good if really from Solingen. I like the design on that one, almost looks like a Sheffield with the notch point and seems more 1/2 than full hollow.

Yes indeed, and since Sheffields are a bit expensive I really want this one

If it were me I'd go for it. If you do get it I'd not polish the blade for fear of loosing the lovely blade etching. From the photos it looks good enough to just hone up and enjoy.
