Default just got my first Wade & Butcher today, curious on how old it may be...

...got this in the mail today. I put a very low bid on ebay for it not thinking it would hold but surprise! it did... can barely make out the words Wade & Butcher but it is there. can not make out anything else. was wondering if any of the collectors or wade & butcher fans would be familiar with the shape or style of the blade. any info would be appreciated or guidance on where to look for info. silly question but... is there a way to bring the stamp back up (like they do with the numbers on a filed gun)

It's strange how there is very little wear on that razor everywhere but the stamp area. Of course, a lot of times the stamp doesn't seat that deep from one razor to the next. I have a very old Marx & Co that is stamped very deep and very clear except it says "SOLINGFN". It is obvious that the die broke and the bottom part of the "E" broke off.

Anyway, the only nugget I can offer is to do the pencil and paper trick on the logo area. If it says "England" then it was manufactured post 1890. That's all I have.

I suspect that the blade has been reground and the barber's notch cut off to make a square point. A lot of old Sheffields were reground back in their working lives to make them lighter and easier to sharpen, copying the full hollows which were becoming much more popular towards the late 19th century. An end-on look at the blade would be beneficial.

I was wondering why the blade was much shorter then the scales. figured it was just re scaled with larger scales. I took a few pics on end but the only camera I own is on my phone

I'd say it's definitely been reground. Hard to pin down an age with the regrind and replacement scales.
