05-10-2017, 09:32 PM #12WARNING:
Gold Dollar razors have a rather mixed reputation around these forums. Some members have had success with these razors but most of the more senior members will gently suggest that those new to straight razors start with something else. I do not personally own a Gold Dollar razor so I cannot offer first hand information but I can say that paying attention to such warnings went a long way to starting me off on the right track when I picked up my first straight razor approximately six months ago.
The advice around here almost always comes with the caveat of YMMV but in all cases the membership is truly interested in making your initial experiences as positive as possible. Do yourself a favor and find a quality razor that is truly shave ready. I would gladly loan you a razor if I had an extra with an excellent edge on it (honing is the next thing on my list of things to learn). PM me and maybe we can work something out to give you the best start possible.

you have to find your way to Shang Gra La. just past the Fountain of Youth and Bribe a Leprechaun with Beer to get in line for a Charlie Lewis razor. by the way I have one ! and you can bet all your wordly good s it aint never for sale! Tc

ya Charlie is one of the custom Guys who its hard to find them cause he doesn't just flood the market looking to cash in, his work is art not to be over done , plus Charlie doesn't like to be bothered by people walking up on his Grass! the real problem is you cant even find one out in the wild cause guys don't sell their Charlie Lewis razors. mine sits on a display rack while all my other customs sit in the dark in a safe. its truly Beautiful work of art and shaves like a dream, I get it out everytime one of Phranks W&Bs get me feeling low,, then I know ive got one that can compete! Thanked: 6the gold dollar isnt terrible (but being my first and only dont know what i'm missing out on) it did however get me hooked to straights tho and i did by a bison co razor and it's being honed so that'll be nice to have something to compare to
i plan on buying many many more already and it's only been 2 weeks
i did however get the starter kit with the "practice" razor included so when the funds come i plan on trying my hand at honing myself
