Thanked: 4827My hold varies a lot. It depends on what part of my face on what pass. Here are the three that I mostly use.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Standard hold. Of course I switch hands for the other side of the face. This hold is for cheeks down past jaw-line.
Next is neck in downward stroke. I use a twisting motion so I can try and work from top to bottom in toward the middle.
Last one is up stroke for all of the face. I try not to put any pressure on the little finger. Just to hold the razor still.
Interested in how other do it too. Might find something that will work better for certain strokes. It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 250I'm completely ambidextrous with my shaving. What one hand does on one side of the face the other does on its side of the face. My routine hasn't changed in well over 40 years. My four pass is two down WTG and two up ATG. Standard hold WTG and scales straight out ATG. I tried XTG a couple of times but quickly found out that I'm not a contortionist.

Thanked: 0This is a great thread. Being new to the SR i hold it the "traditional" way 2 fingers on the top and thumb on the bottom. I've been struggling to figure out how to work ATG on my neck and never thought about switching the grip.

Shave across the neck at an angle is what I need to do to get even closer shave but it just dont happen for me. I've tried many way of holding the razor and I just cant figure out how to do it. Guess this is why I stop and enjoy a C.C.S. Shave and not B.B.S.

I usually only do 2 passes. Not typical of how most do. 1st pass is from nose/mouth towards ear and south to north on neck. Then 2nd pass is just the opposite.
1st pass grip for cheeks
1st pass grip for neck
Grip for all of 2nd pass
