Default Let's see how you hold your Razor.

Here's my hold. Traditional I guess, but it works for me.

I have different holds, depends on the part of my face I am shaving.

Stropping or shaving not much difference.Name: hold1.jpg

If I was a barber shaving someone else I could understand the more traditional hold but I find it very uncomfortable when shaving myself.

    Freddie,

IF I was shaving the LEFT SIDE of my face, that's how I'd hold the razor. I'll try to get one of the kids to take a pic for me but I shave with the toe toward the nose as I find it frees up my line of sight as I only shave with my dominate (right hand).

This was a fun exercise. Went through the motions to see for myself how i hold a straight. Please note these grips are for head shaving only.

    Top of the head

Top in the back (slightly firmer)

Sides (thumb on side of tang)

Back (thumb on bottom of tang)

Im pretty sure there are some goofy holds that i end up doing when im trying to reach all the back hair, but these are my standards.

The first pic is of my grip for all WTG and XTG passes with either hand.
The second is when I do ATG on the neck with either hand
I do ATG on the face cross handed, last pic shows the grip I use for that.

Needed a shave anyway so I did a 4 pass and paid attention to my grips. The main change from my first post was left handed bottom to top on the right side.

As I was paying closer attention I thought about 8-8-80 a day that I will remember forever! I hurt my right hand and wrist and although most of the time I don't think about it, it influences to this day my motions. My right wrist doesn't flex as much as my left and that influences the grips and angles I use.
