Having learned on a 8/8 near wedge, that is still my 'go to' blade. Although, I have everything from 3/8 on up, in the stable.

Thanked: 101I have about every style vintage razor from 5/8" & up to 1"I really like larger heaver grind blades as I have a fairly heavy beard & these just work best for me. That said I do have a German made Red Imp that I really like. When I go razor hunting at flea markets & antique shops I am mainly looking at condition that blade style.

I now have 17 razors. 11 are new production or NOS. 2 are Gold Dollars, and 4 are older razors off eBay. They range 5/8 - 8/8 in various point styles. I love them all.
A little advice: Don't impede an 80,000 lbs. 18 wheeler tanker carrying hazardous chemicals.

I've got a little of everything vintage in my collection, but I now prefer about a 6/8 quarter hollow shoulder less smiling blade with a nice humpback, like an ERN Ator or an old Frederick Reynolds Rattler grind hits my sweet spot too. Easier to hone, good for shaving in the neck hollows, and I just love that aesthetic.

Thanked: 2284It's all wedge for me. Nothing like a Sheffield wedge honed on a nice coticule. Blade width? Anything from 6/8 to 9/8 will do for me.

Thanked: 2Agreed, not about need. Just want to know how "that" razor shaves, handles, hones, etc. I started with 2 from my grandfathers in 1972, last count was 63. Yeah, that's how many I need, until I pick up that NOS Easy Aces
Oh yeah, 5/8 - 6/8 hollow Sheffield. It just works for me.Last edited by Texstar; 07-15-2017 at 01:14 AM.

6/8-7/8...full hollow to extra hollow. Have a couple quarter hollow and half hollow blades but they are not at the top of the heap. The Brian Brown bellied hollow ground blades are really nice.
