    Default Cretan "Damascus" Razor

Greetings. I am USN stationed on the Greek isle, Crete, and saw this Razor at a knife shop. Owner says steel is of Syrian origin, high carbon steel forged over Damascus layering. Scales is made of bone, but I neglected to ask what kind. Price is quite high - 380€. I only took this one photo. Forgive some some of what appears to be major pitting, it is debris adhering to the coat of oil. Would this be a likely ripoff or worth consideration?

That middle pin looks designed for the edge to rest on it, bad idea.

I would avoid that one for €3.80.....

yeah. looks like a hobbiest's piece to me... size of the tang, curious pin placement, blade length all give me pause. but i'm no expert.

We don't valuate items here on SRP; so your not going to get a clear answer on your question.

I can say though, that it is "something" that I would not want in my collection, regardless of the price.

Was it smuggled from Pakistan to Syria?

When you have minimal information it's difficult to give a good accurate answer.

Is that third pin an actual pin or are the scales pinned to another material and it's just holding the bone on?

That's what you call "a leap of faith".

I'd stay away from the razor, but while you're there you should pick up a nice piece of Cretan stone (to hone both razors and knives).

The blade doesn't rest on the pin, but there is a bone "stopper" built in that still makes contact with the blade itself. He was gently snapping the blade down on top of it. I hid my distaste. I drew this photo to display the inner workings.
