Thanked: 5The Kropp 7 day razor set
Hi new to these forums,
Iv been given my dad collection of shaving bits and bobs 2 cases of assorted shaving mugs some with brushes and some with a block of shaving soap on them iv not even gon through those yet and a backpack fill of razors vering from rolls razors some dismantable safety razors and many straight razors. So iv joined here to hopefully find out about some of the pieces that have jumped out at me starting with the one in the title of this post.
photos:
as you can see they seem to have been never used and even the brass plate on the top has not been engraved. I'v not cleaned the dust or marks off them from where people have been taking them out to look athem over the years as i wouldn't have a clue how to clean the correctly.
Bone or ivory not sure the grain is all in a uniform direction along the length so hoping ivory.
So really any info about them would be good, not decided if im going to part with them but i'm not keen on having this many blades in the house (maybe close to 100 in the backpack 30+ are straight razors) so insurance value would be handy if i keep these ones but if you have a inkling on what they should be worth in auction that would be great to.
Sorry about the formatting of this post i'm not that great at getting my mind down in words.
thanks for any help
Dan

Nice set. We can't give valuations on this forum. I usually check what they have previously sold for on eBay.

Thanked: 5Mainly after some info about it really as all i can say about it is its a set with the days engraved on each made by kropp in sheffield dosnt seem to have been used and the scales are either bone or ivory.
all i know about straight razors is that i wouldn't trust my self bring one anywhere near my face.

Scales would not be bone. Ivory or Celluloid. I think most likely the latter.
A closer shot of the graining in the scales with light across may help identify the material.

Still hard to say. Set it on a windowsill and take the pic down the length. Close
The pins are collarless, so it could be ivory. Just seems a bit thick for that.

Nice set certainly not Ivory, the Kropp razors are very underated the Bic razor of their day without doubt the most common Sheffield straight razor of it's day, nice English Oak box great find hone them up and use them.

That's a beautiful set you've scored. Per forum rules, we can't give valuations (which fluctuate wildly in any event depending on current collector interest and other variables). As suggested, check comps on ebay and price or set reserve accordingly. They are "worth" whatever someone is willing to pay.

Thanked: 4827It is a beautiful set. Seven day sets oddly enough are not highly sought after. I tend to think the scales are a tad thick to be ivory, but collarless pinning on french or faux ivory (plastic) is unusual too. I have no idea why 100 razor would be too many. There are a lot of collectors with a lot more than that. Clearly these are pieces your father loved and enjoyed, they are well kept. I hope to see the rest of them. We do love to look at razor pictures around here.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

unfortunitly a lot of them arent in fabulus condition as the last few years they have been in storage as he hasnt had the room to keep them and a couple of the boxes have suffered from a little damp. I'll take some photos of the rest tommrow
any idea on what the age of the kropps would be.
