Those scales look like vulcanized rubber. The sulfur will creep to the surface when placed in sun light. It can be sanded out but fixing the broken end is probably not going to work. Try some super glue and see what happens.
If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

I happen to have a reft of old Bakelite scales. Might be we could find one to match the good one after some 'modification'? Bolt them together, sand and contour.....

Thanked: 0My grandpa told me something about lead wedges and I struggle to remember it correctly. I think it was that a lead wedge was pre war but was it 1st or 2nd world war? (Like there have only been 2 wars ha)
Can you tell me what a lead wedge means to you when dating as he is no longer around to clear it up.
Cheers Julie

Well... They weren't lead. They're tin. But yeah, primarily in use before WWI. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or to turn up later than that, but they are an 'older' feature.
Only on Sheffields though. French razors often used another piece of the same material as the scales, or sometimes ivory or bone.-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.
