    Default A Few More Vintage

Got some more vintage blades .

The first two are interesting because I cant find any info on them.

One has winged razors on the tang and I'm sure I've seen that symbol before.
The second says Foreign on the tang and Extra Hollow Ground Warranted on the blade. It is probably a 7/8ths and the tail end tapers down from the spine which I've never seen before. I'm guessing it is German.

Wow, that's a lot of blades. All look to have minimal hone wear. On the other hand, most look to have some concerning blade rust. Hopefully it doesn't go too deep. Great scores!

    Johnson, Benjamin (, ironmonger).
Address: 657 Attercliffe road, Sheffield in 1905.
Recorded in: Whites Directory of Sheffield & Rotherham

Benjamin Johnson a retailer on Attercliffe Road.

Gill, George (, pen knife manufacturer (G. & Sons)).
Address: 107 Eyre Street; h. 14 Colver Road, Sheffield in 1905.
Recorded in: White's directory of Sheffield and Rotherham.

George Gill it could be this one, there are several George Gills in Sheffield !

The RH & Sons would be Robert Hovenden who was a retailer in London, I have a couple of near wedges with RH & Sons good razors likely to be made by a Sheffield company.

The Darwin of course is the same firm who went on to make the DE's in an early stainless/cobalt steel.

A nice collection you've found there
    Regards Brian

Thanks for the input guys, sir Brian,
Yes minimal hone ware, the rust is mostly ok .
When I get blades with noticeable hone ware it really gets to me, however it must mean that they were/are great shavers hence the honing and usage

Congrats on some nice finds that should provide hours of fun restoring them and putting them back in use.

IIRC there is a thread where GSSixgun/Glen talks about the relationship between the scale wedge and the taper of the tang inwards from blade to tail as well as inward from top of the tang to bottom. Again IIRC, this allowed the scales to vary the pressure on the tang as in it should get harder to open the blade as you get it to right angle with the scales. Keep in mind I may have not remembered that correctly.

Very nice finds. I like how the Johnson has the street address. I normally like the look of larger blades but I really like the style of that one.
Another appears to have a flintlock pistol (if I'm seeing it right). That is a first for me.

Some of those have really clean etching. Those don't need much work to make them look really great.

I will have to dig it out later and see what the deal is with the wedge end. I keep my blades tucked away, hidden, waxed, waiting for there redemption
