I believe the term, "440 surgical stainless" was used. Lets call it 440 grade Stainless to simplify matters. I was only guessing that this was the "steel" used and posing the question. does any one know the answer?

    Default The Straight Dope

I got word from Classic Shaving. They said that it is Carbon steel after all.

Too bad I switched to the Dovo Bismark. It's alright I ended up buying a vintage Fili on Ebay anyway.

There should be a warning somewhere that these things are addictive.

I went online to ClassicShaving.com to look at a few items,
and again took a peek at the 7/8" Filarmonica. I do recall them
being sold out last week, but for some reason it appeared
as in-stock! Obviously I purchased one along with some
plastic handles for my Wapis, and lo-and-behold, Sold Out
    again today!

    Mystery solved:
    1) someone returned one or two and you guys got them (I have returned a rare razor to CS, and it was sold out later)
    2) They found another one or more in the crate (as Michael joked - we're waiting for a new stash of TIPTLEs )

    Cheers

Ross Cutlery in Downtown Los Angeles (the store that I posted about in coticule chronicles) has many beautiful NOS Filarmonica razors. Allen told me that they bought 500 when the company went Filarmonica of business. If someone wants to buy one I suggest that you look at their website and see if the owners would do an online sale.
