Thread: Inexpensive eBay Razors...

Hi.

Various dealers on eBay regularly have razors from "Masters", "Krieger", "Timber Wolf" etc. There is also the "Zeepk" brand. Some appear to be chromium, some are advertised as stainless steel...

They are all pretty inexpenisve so, no-doubt they have issues. What's the story? I feel like tinkering with some blades. Are any of these brands worth fooling-around with?

Any info is appreciated...

If you bought one of these, the most action it would get is being a letter opener. If you have a desire to tinker around with some blades, search E-bay for really dingy looking blades that have a low going price (but you'll want them free of weird bevels and nicks) but are from Solingen, Sheffield, or Little Valley, NY. All of these are good steels. Or pay a visit to an antique store and look around. If you want to buy a straight razor, I think Lynn Abrams and some others sell them to newcomers at a discount (and they come honed, too).

The razors you mention are for the most part pakistani made and they are garbage. (poor metal, poor grinding) Worthless for shaving. If you want to use one to practice your honing techinique or stropping technique without worrying about ruining a good blade then that's fine but I would never shave with one.

The lowest price for a razor from a quality manufacturer is about $60.Dovo, TI, G&F. If a razor is new, on Ebay, and the price is much less then stay away from it. It is simply to good to be true.

ANYWAY! I just wanted some information on the Timber Wolf razors. I understand that they are an eBay razor, along the lines of Zeepk and Master. Are they made in Pakistan as well? I'm assuming these ones are not "shave-ready" out of the box, just like every other razor.

Just wanted some info since I couldn't find much else on the web. I'm kind-of pestering an eBay seller at the moment.

It's probably the same seller who told me that he has sold hundreds and everyone loves them. However, they won't take an edge at all - it's like trying to hone chrome. Don't waste your $$ unless you just want a letter opener

LOL I had already wasted money on a Z**pk a while back. I'll never again purchase an eBay crapper.

I simply messaged the guy and told him he should include "not shave-ready" in the description, as it implies it's perfectly sharp and ready to be used.

We've exchanged about 10 emails now, and he's having a fit. At one point he said, "Any idiot should know how to sharpen one of these before buying one." I had a lot of fun with that one.

Actually, I just realized I was talking about the Timber Rattler razor - I don't know anything about the Timber Wolf brand - hope I didn't mislead you.

I just noticed though on eBay that a seller with the name "only_high_quality_stuff" is selling a Timber Rattler "razor" - what a joke

Well this particular razor has "Timber Wolf" on the shank and "Timber Rattler" etched on the blade. So I think you're right.
