I don't know how to say this gently but you need to buy an actual straight razor and not one that resembles one otherwise known as a RSO (Razor Shaped Object). Have a look through the BST section https://straightrazorpalace.com/razors-blades/ to see what to look for. Lots of different reputable brands both new and used. If you buy new from a reputable retailer buy a reputable brand and make sure they hone it to shave ready before they ship it. You can ask forum members who they have had success with buying new shave ready razors from. It just may make your shaving experience a whole lot better and more enjoyable.

A damascus razor for 40 bucks? Not if its real! A true damascus razor cost hundreds. That shows they are RSO. Not real razors. When you get one from here (B.S.T.) and they say it is sha e ready, be damn careful!. Compared to what you have been trying to shave with, one from here will take a wrist off in a heart beat.

BTW, NEVER, and i mean never, try to cut paper with your real razor! You will damage the edge. Good luck and keep us informed what you get. If you want new there are reputable sellers out there. Its going to cost a lot more than you have spent so far and as said, be sure to ask if it is honed by hand. Not a machine or a factory edge.

    Oh, and one more thing....
Welcome to SRP. We will help you in everyway we can to get you going the right direction to a great shave. It takes many, many shaves and and lots of time but it will come. Just dont give up.

Saving a newbie from the utter disappointment of shaving with an RSO is an incredibly wonderful gesture, outback!

I've made this gesture before, only to see them tuck tails.

Good for you Outback. I was thinking about the same thing but I'm just not as sure of my edges. Yes, I do a good job on honing now but it is not always consistent. Yet! I hope he takes you up on this. Its better than burning up money on Envelope openers, I mean RSO's.
    Bravo!

You are in good hands. Now save your skin and stop shaving for a week. All will be good soon. Glad you checked back in as Outback has made this offer in the 0ast and guys just disappear. You wont be disappointed. It might not be the pretty blade you have seen, but it will shave you proper if you follow directions. Good luck and welcome to the sharp end of shaving!
