With these ones they were a lot easier to crack being so thin. Im about to just go buy scales and hardware and give up on making them.
There are tons of hints on this but

5/64 holes not 1/16 the peening creates a percussion bulge so you need the extra room

CA in the holes BEFORE finish I even put up a vid about this trick

The Wedge vs Flex equation isn't as easy as many think

Thick scales don't flex, if they don't flex, the angle of the tang creates pressure on the pivot resulting in loose pivots or cracked scales

All this info is actually in the How Do I, where do I, what do I sticky at the top of the workshop forum

    DON’T GIVE UP!!!

I bet we all screwed up our first set of scales. I’ve made 7-8 sets and each is better than the last.

Being able to make your own scales opens up a whole new area of this hobby, same as with honing. You can find a total turd of a razor and turn it into something amazing. It may even be advantageous to start a thread and make posts as your are making the scales. With some detailed photos and some patience your resulting efforts will blow doors on your first two attempts.

Gave that up in short order.

Like Jerry said...Practice..!! And keep the scales thin, and your pins small n tight. It is pretty easy, but there's lots to learn before it all comes together.
