    Default Razor Lube

Hi Gents.. Quick question. Since i do not live in a humid region for most of the year i have never put any lubricant on my razors after using, touching up etc.. This past summer here in Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan was unusually hot and muggy so upon inspection of my razors a few did have some minor water blemishes.. I have decided to start doing the right thing and lubricate all with a small amount of lube... I have hoppes #9, petroleum gel, penetrating oils and the such around but wondering what might be the standard you guys use? Heading to Home Depot shortly.. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Scott W

Been using Ren wax and haven't had any problems though my house is kept pretty dry. would like to know if any one has used it in a more humid environment with success.

Sounds like you have plenty on hand and don't need to get more.

Hi Jerry... Like yourself i never put anything on my razors and never had any problems..A few weeks ago i noticed 2-3 ball point pen size black spots on my Koraat, likely from shaking my hands off.. I figure its not a big deal to put a quick swipe down the blade.. Scott W

Anything that’s being stored gets either slip 2000 or mineral oil wipes on real light, usually a dot at the pivot too because those always seem to have or get rust. I just work it in then wipe off the excess. My daily drivers I just use, leave open in a safe place to completely dry then back in the leather roll for next time. A couple I’ve had in there unused for extended periods of time with no oil and have had no issues. I live in a pretty mild area, my guess is relative humidity hangs around the 50% percent area most the year.

One thing is for sure, it never hurts to protect clean steel. If i had to guess, id bet more than 50% of the guys here use something on the blade. If its a one time thing or every time. Just be sure to let it dry 100% before putting any oils or lube on it so as to not trap the water under the protectant.
