Default George Butler - Keen, too good to be true?

    Hi all,
I have been straight razor shaving for 4 years now and been lurking on forum quite often, and have a few straights (Friodur - 50 1/2, Tuckmar WeltRuf, Paul Waldman - 2255 Double Cuckoo, Fanger 500, Perfect works - Robuso) that I'm really happy with.
Recently I got in possession of the George Butler Keen No2 (Shakespeare) that looks fantastic and I am wondering if it is the real deal or if it is possible that it is some kind of a copy.
    Thank you all for helping

I have a square point with the same inscription on the face of the blade but the tang stamp is completely gone or never existed. It shaves well. I think the one you have should as well.

    Welcome btw.

Not a copy, and I recall seeing a cased pair which would explain No. 2 stamp.
Many fine examples here if you use the search facility.
Interestingly I have seen the same stamp on Bengall razors out of Japan, so maybe they purchased George Butler somewhere along the way.

Welcome to the forum. The razor appears to be in nice condition.

I have one of those stamped No2 also and it shaves well. I am not an expert and don't see why anyone would make the effort to fake a George Butler Shakespeare razor so my bet is that it is a real one. From the looks of the pinning at the pivot the razor may have been taken apart for cleaning and/or rescaled as the pin used appears to be a modern "nail head" type pin. If that is the case it is not a big deal in any event.

Hone her up and enjoy the shave.

Grazor jogged my memory about using the search boa in the upper right corner of the page. This is just one of many threads on George Butler razors you will find here. From it you will clearly see all the stamps and markings.

Still waiting on any evidence of an actual fake razor...
