The Piedmont search continues
I recently picked up a Piedmont Straight razor. If anyone else has tried to do a search on it as I have for the last few hours you know there is not much info on them. I'm looking for anyone that knows anything about these razors. I've read possibly a Torrey but have not been able to find anything to confirm. The tang says Piedmont. That's the only marking on it. I've run across a couple of other threads of folks asking about them and no solid answers were given. So, Anyone know anything about these?
It looks like a nice vintage blade from the early 1900s to me. But that's just a guess.
It had broken Rubber Scales so I dug up these black plastic ones. They fit perfectly. so I kept the collars and repinned it.It's just Sharpening, right?

Not another stamp of any kind, Leonard. Guessing German made. Going to put it on the stones tonight. I think I might be able to feel if its German or England from the feel of the steel. Hopefully.
BTW, The tip of the edge/bevel was bent a little. So I just got done making it into a Round point. It was square. I've tried to fix bent tips before. It doesn't go well! Took no more than an 1/8" off the length.

I feel like I've seen one of those before too but I don't remember where. It may have been on eBay a while back. Hell maybe it's the
same one you have now. I don't know anything else about it though. Did you give it that satin finish Jerry? I usually like chrome front bumper shiny but that looks good on that thingIron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17

Just a basic cleaning of the blade. I haven't tried to polish it hard, yet. It has some pitting and was covered in devil spit so its not going to be a perfect blade. But should shave well. I too have seen these before. And from what I've found on them, nobody has come up with a maker or any real info. Its odd. I know a few folks here must have one in there collection. Hope someone can help with a date and maker. Or something!

I feel likely sold from a Piedmont, Virginia retailer? Looks 'Gencoish'?

Matched it up to a Geneva and the only difference I see is the tail is a little straighter. You might be onto something Tom. I'd also thought about the Virginia name. Both good guesses IMO.
Just got done honing it and going up for a test shave. Finished on Asagi with slurry. Why... Just because I felt like it. LOL. The edge took a slim even bevel and with the full hollow grind, it didn't take much to get bevel set. If I had to guess I'd say it was German made by the way the steel felt and acted. But I'm no pro that's for sure. It didn't sound or feel on the softer side, not as hard as American and definitely not as hard as the Sweed blades. Guess I will get my shave on and do a SOTD.Last edited by Gasman; 08-22-2019 at 10:24 PM.

Great edge off of the Asagi. Smooooth and keen. The new toe and the tiny bevel looks great! Too bad about the Devil Spit on the spine, but I can live with it. Still searching for more info but I'm about to give up and call it a German Blade from 1900. Cant be too far off.
Same pic on SOTD.It's just Sharpening, right?
