Thanked: 13246Diamond Spear Razor????
I recently restored this razor and was wondering if anyone else has run across one of these On the tang it is stamped "Diamond Spear" with a small warrior holding a spear, then we have "Hamburg Germany" and "Hollow Ground"
On the Uniceltica site I found this info
DIAMOND SPEAR
Trademark used by W. Brokhahne, New York, New York ca. 1878-1906
Trademark used by Challenge Cutlery from 1906-1928"
This one I believe to be one of the earlier ones, I would guess after a hot pin test that the scales are made of horn...
This razor has turned out to be one of the sharpest ones I have ever seen, it honed up easy, and took to pasted strops beautifully the blade is 5/8 and it handles like a charm around my beard lines... was just wondering if any one else has tried one of these because from this example I would rate it as smooth as any Dovo, DD, or TI....
Would love to hear
Glen

I'm digging up the past. I just came across one of these from an antique store trip. It is iin decent condition with the exception of some deep scratching. It looks like some one tried to clean it up with 60 grit paper. I'm in the midst of restoring it and will post pictures when finished.
Do you still own this razor Glen, and if so how has it heldp up for you? Does anyone else own one? Thus far it seems like a decent razor, especialy for the $10 I paid for it.

Thanked: 13246Yes Jerry, it is still well ensconced in the permanent rotation, and still as sharp as ever... I have yet to have to refresh the blade...
If she cleans up nice, and hones up anywhere near what mine did, I am thinking you will have a great shaver there....
Thanks for posting, and let us know how your's shaves and please show the pics when yer done

That is good to know. We should tell everyone they are junk and keep the price down. I'll post soon when finished.
Thanks,
Jerry

Thanked: 2I have just found this old thread whilst looking for some info on an old Diamond and Spear razor I have in my possession.
It was the 1st razor I acquired when I decided to take the plunge into straight razor shaving, it wasn't very expensive at all but none the less one of the best razors I own. She is absolutely flawless not a mark or pit to show for being so old and takes an edge by showing it the hone and holds it as well as one could expect.

Yes pics please! I have never seen one or even heard of these before. It is interesting how many fine quality razors are still waiting to be discovered

Pics would be nice. I would like to see the diamond spear. Never know, I might have one laying around & not know it. I do have a couple from Challenge Cutlery somewhere!

I wonder if Glen even remembers starting this thread almost 8 years ago? If you have pictures, we'd love to see them
Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???

I'm sure he remembers it. I would.
BTW, I just looked in my Goins Encylopedia & it shows W. Brokhahne, New York, New York to be in business from 1857-1906 but I think Glen was referring to them using the Diamond Spear from 1878-1906. I also see the same Diamond Spear logo under Challenge Cutlery but it appears to be a frog with a Diamond Spear going through it so I don't know if this is the same logo. Glen referred to it as a small warrior holding a spear.
