Default Singing razors: what do you dislike about them?

    Hey yall,

So, as the title says I'm trying to figure out what yall don't like about singing razors. Best I can find is that they "are not good for heavy beards". But, since I'm trying to learn everything about razors at one time, I'm trying to gage whether I'm not honing well or if I have a heavy beard. Not like I feel a bunch of faces and ask "would you say you have a heavy beard? ".

Doing the same prep and shave style, what I'm noticing is that a singing razor is uncomfortable to painful when it gets to my neck. This was always a problem area for me and having a comfortable shave there is what sold me on straights in the first place.

Most do fine on my cheeks, but I do have one particularly high pitched one that seems unstable like the blade doesn't even stay on my face. In the three times I used it, it cut me in the middle of the cheek (different spots, not cutting off the scab). Without some obvious error which is the only time I cut the middle of my cheek.

So, looking for yall's experience in case I'm doing something wrong.

I should also point out that I don't see any indication that I'm honing badly (or worse then normal). They pass all the HHT type markers. The sharpie is removed all the way to the edge, so I don't think I'm honing with too much pressure and missing the apex. Also, one I won in the giveaway and did not hone myself. Not sure who honed it, but it seemed "shave ready".

    Thanks.

Haven't heard they aren't suitable for heavy beards.
The blades do flex more so an adjustment in technique may help. Less pressure, more passes maybe.
If you are used to a wedge the scraping sound can be a bit nerve racking, but they shave as good if not better than anything else out there.

Personally I just don't like the noise. I know it is removing hair but singing makes it sound like it is not. Prefer heavy silent blades.

The best I have for the heavy beard is that the blade moves too much for the heavy whiskers. Not sure if I read that or decided that was most likely the reason.

I actually like the sound. It makes me happy up until it gets to the "why God, why" on my neck.

I'll have to check my pressure. The one that feels like it is wiggling probably made me add pressure. Maybe I should try easing off.

Not really any change in comfort, though?

Less pressure, for sure; and maybe try a lower angle of attack, ie the spine closer to the skin.

The "scraping sound" tells me if I need another pass or not: the "quieter" it is, the closer the shave.

I cant think of one thing I dont like about a very hollow razor. And as far as tough beards go, mine is all gray. Thats not a soft whisker. But if a razor is sharp enough it will take off my whiskers with no effort. Like a wet wash cloth across the face.
But not everyone likes an edge that keen and some peoples skin cant take that level of keen either.

Don't have to tell me about the gray ones. Mine started graying at 25. Some of those bastards are twice as thick as normal.

I was thinking about the sharpness and keeness with the one you sent me and maybe trying to mellow it out a bit. But the ones I hone I would think would be the relatively same as the others I hone. Unless the extra full hollow is keener just by the design.

I enjoy using the singers. My neck can be easily irritated by shaving no matter what type of grind. When I shave my neck I don't try shaving/cutting the hair, I just want to wipe away the lather with the edge. Very light and smooth strokes. Also, I don't try for BBS coz it ain't worth the grief.
