I've always coated my razors with Ren Wax. Over time the gold wash will rub off, the wax will help preserve.

The only Dovo razors that I have the time of day for, are the Dovo Bismarck and the similar profile models. Of course I also like the "real" vintage Bismarck of the same shape. I have several of this style. Very hand-friendly, strops and hones quite nicely, great shavers. Similar offerings by Revisor and TI get my vote, too, though I have not shaved with the TI version.

I could care less about the gold, though. Gold don't shave, and apart from a very few youtube vids, I don't shave for an admiring audience who will ooh and ah at the pretty razor. Totally I understand that some owners and buyers like a beautiful razor, but me, I put the cosmetics in low priority against function. However, the Dovo Bismarck(ish) family does a good job of checking all the boxes, for both form and function.
