Default Dovo Bismarck purchased, VERY happy with it.

I’ve been thinking about the Bismarck Ebony for years, and I finally bought it from Ross Cutlery in downtown LA. I was skeptical about their claim that it was shave-ready, but oh boy, this one is brilliant. I could see that people had been touching it in the store so I gave it a thorough stropping. Very smooth shaver and not harsh at all. It’s actually Double Duck level smooth. Incidentally I also have a Bismarck strop. Apparently my cat also approves

I have thought that the Bizmarck has been their #1 shaver for some years, seems they have a better grind over all

Nice, I've always liked the Dovo Bismark. Im glad the grinding and finish is good. Are you going to put something like Renaissance Wax on it to protect the gold plating somewhat?

I never did that before, wouldn’t that rub off on the strop? though I handle my razors carefully so I never really lost much gold plating.

I've always coated my razors with Ren Wax. Over time the gold wash will rub off, the wax will help preserve.

The only Dovo razors that I have the time of day for, are the Dovo Bismarck and the similar profile models. Of course I also like the "real" vintage Bismarck of the same shape. I have several of this style. Very hand-friendly, strops and hones quite nicely, great shavers. Similar offerings by Revisor and TI get my vote, too, though I have not shaved with the TI version.

I could care less about the gold, though. Gold don't shave, and apart from a very few youtube vids, I don't shave for an admiring audience who will ooh and ah at the pretty razor. Totally I understand that some owners and buyers like a beautiful razor, but me, I put the cosmetics in low priority against function. However, the Dovo Bismarck(ish) family does a good job of checking all the boxes, for both form and function.
