Default Vintage Dovo Special and New Dovo Special

Hello, gents! I was wondering about the Vintage Dovo Special. Is the current production Dovo Special (upper pic) named after the Vintage one (lower pic)?? Also, does the 400 on the vintage's tang mean anything in particular?? What was so "Special" about the Vintage Special model?? Was it one of Dovo's popular models back in the old days??

    Thanks!!

The old Dovo's were truly great razors. The newer ones not so much.

    Thank you very much!

So far, the biggest difference I've found is the grind. But I'd like to know what others have to say about this particular vintage model.

What is on the back of the vintage one?

Yes!! It says Fritz Bracht on the back

Who was Fritz Bracht? A grinder?
I've been shaving for years with straight razors for year but all of the new production ones (3 Dovos, 3 Bokers and a Wacker Jugnmeister recently) but I'm still learning about vintage razors that's why I'm so insistent these days about info on them. Sorry if I'm PITA sometimes because of this!!

    Spelling error on my part
He was the owner of Dovo from 1940 -? razors made during his ownership were considered the best in their history.
Not sure whether I believe that or not. I have a Fritz Bracht that doesn't hold an edge very well. Perhaps because it is so thinly ground in combination with something else.
Looks like he was a grinder also!

I have two Fritz's and they are among the best razors I have had. They give really great shaves and hold an edge really well.

Don't have a vintage one, but I do have a new Dovo Special. It came with ~2mm nick on edge near the toe, other than that, it seems to be okay.

Okay, found more issues while I was trying to hone it. The bevels were uneven as the spine was off a bit, not too much but enough to affect the bevel. Was confused on why I could only get half of the edge shave ready, then I inspected the bevels closely and found the bevel on one side was uneven. Had to use a diamond plate the correct the spine. Lessons learned: inspect the geometries carefully before doing any work.
