Thanked: 174I use toilet paper to wick the water away. Some use a hair dryer. I think that is OTT but I understand how precious some of these razors can become as possessions.
When I know I have a dry razor, sometimes I will add a drop of oil to the pivot to stop water getting in there.
The black is residue iron filings and oil and general crud that can build up. The metal wares ever so slightly at the pivot point. That is the principal reason I fill the holes and joints around that area with the oil.

I live in Houston, (so it is humid) and I had pitting on the tang, after a couple of days sitting in my medicine cabinet, and running an exhaust fan. So I moved it.

Thanked: 278OTT= over the top
Today i gave my razor a quick blast under the bathroom heater (the hot air blower type, so much the same as using a hairdryer.)
Mineral oil is probably the easiest to get, I must get some soon. Or as I'm in the UK I should really get some Ballistol Environmentally Friendly Lubricating Oil

Thanked: 174Thanks Ray.
No oil will not damage your razor.
If you store your razor or if you live in a high humidity climate, I would coat the razor with camellia oil. This oil is safe and so will your razor be. It washes off under a running tap of hot water.
As Ray says, there are specialist oils but I use the one I know.

Thanked: 235I don't think its any problem to not be able to keep your razor and strop in the bathroom. I live with my inlaws (ten people in the house) and if I left my razor there it would end up being used to chop veggies. But if you are going to store it in the bathroom I think you should be fine as long as you store it in a container that allows the air to get to the razor after you finish using it. Not a good idea to put it back in what ever case it came in after the shave.

Wow that is amazing using your razor on veggies. Did that damage your razor?

Thanked: 235They haven't done that yet, because I store all my shaving and shower stuff in my room. The culture here is that if it is in reach of other people then you must not mind if they use it for whatever they want. I also don't like the idea of the roaches crawling all over my razor.

Silica Packets
I've got a razor box that was made for me this past Christmas which I keep my shave-ready razors in. I throw a few silica packets in there and that seems to help with the moisture (plus it's cedar so it's naturally anti-moisture).

Silica Packets
Where do you get silica packets? They seem like the perfect thing for storing soaps that you aren't using at the moment
