Can you date this Joseph Elliot?
Hi guys, I bought this razor off of ebay and just got it in to take some pictures, and I was wondering if someone could tell me the date this was made. Here are some pictures...any idea what the scales are made of?
Cost $37 shipped
Writing on blade:
First line: Joseph Elliot S
Sec. line: Best Silver Steel

ELLIOT, JOSEPH
Sheffield
Trademark: C reversed and C, with cross between
1821-1854 ("More Old Razors" by Lummus. Antiques, May 1927 p.372-374)
and for the scales: horn
and it has seen some hone loving!Be just and fear not.

yea, I purchased this from a guy on ebay called altima55 who I've been told makes some very keen razors. Thanks for the input, but I was also wondering what type of horn it was?

bob (altima55) generally does a good job cleaning up and honing ebay finds.
the horn would be cow.Be just and fear not.

Thanked: 9Yes, I was going to say generally 1850 but before 1880 or so period because some time after this they start marking the razors Sheffield, as far as I remember
