Yeah they were epoxied in and everything. It was just the weird angle that it landed, and the fact that I tried to catch it at first and then sorta bumped it a bit higher than it was when I dropped it.

It sounds like there was a bonding issue between the brass liners and the glue or between the glue and the polymer scale. Epoxy should have bonded so solid that when it hit the floor, the worst should have been a crack in the scale, not parts separating.

I'd suggest roughing up the brass really well, use lacquer thinner to degrease them and a slow setting epoxy rather than a 5 min one. Another option might be to try a polyurethane glue such as gorilla glue but you need to moisten the scale side with some water to get the glue to set. You don't want it wet, just damp....

^^^ Thats whats weird is I did roughen up the brass and cleaned it before epoxying them together. All I can think is that I didn't roughen up the clay side, but it is so rough anyway I figured it would hold.

So this time I am gonna do both sides and I already have Gorilla glue. LOL I love that stuff!!!

We will see how it turns out. Also, I did all Glow scales this time to take out the black clay as a variable.

Well, it should be easy enough to determine if the epoxy let go on the brass side or the Polymer side... I'm betting on the brass side though, the Polymer is probably slightly porous and would not have had any oils on it's surface. If the brass is smooth and clean..... you know for sure.

if you drilled pin size holes in the brass wouldn't you get it to stick better?

    AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH HHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before I even got them glued up I dropped one of the new ones and in trying to catch it I stepped on the DAMN thing! I want to laugh and I want to cry. LOL

So tomorrow I will try one last time, and I am gonna fix up a bench so I can work while siting down this time.

As a cantankerous ex old gunsmith, let me tell you... the fastest way to find a knot hole in the floor that leads to an unlit, dirt floor basement is to disassemble a new to you, for the first time, no parts available firearm! Springs and unknown, never seen before so I don't even know what's missing parts just vanish in a heart sickening little "spoing" when a spring loaded part, departs for somewhere unknown during the takedown sequence.

    I feel for you....

Hope the next attempt works out better.

What I'm about to tell you is eerie... that glow in the dark polymer is *haunted*! Haven't you ever watched Scooby Doo? You better make some black-only scales for your 3rd attempt, unless you want to be chased by groaning zombie Mr. Johnson (from the scooby snack factory that's being closed down).

O.K. after a few late nights and many episodes of Firefly, I think I am just about done.

I went back to the first set that I broke to see if I could fix them. What do you know, I was! I used some regular white glue and it went back together. There is a tiny line if you look really hard, but other than that, you can't even tell.

So all I have left to do is finish polishing and install the spacer, file down the bolts, and then polish them up. Then I think I am going to be sending it off to Lynn to get honed up and my buddy will have a nice new glowing razor. LOL
