So true, crichton
Sorry, couldn't resist poking some fun. But the truth is, you won't really know until you try out both. So, pick the one you fancy more, and sooner or later you'll really want to try out the other and will. Then you'll know for sure and if you don't want to keep both, I'm certain you won't have hard time finding a taker.

AL I will say is that the t-shell special is my best seller, I cannot get enough of them, quite literally - stock comes in and is gone in days! I like the way they hone up and have had nothing but positive comments about them. I'd go for that one as a starter, no doubts.

I like the carbon blade. I can not give an opinion though because I havn't tried the SS from Dovo. I do however own the Special in tortoise 5/8 and it is a regular along side my modist vintage collection. I did hear a respected member of the forum with an extensive collection at the Ohio roundup state that the special was a great shaver and this guy appears to have shaven with pert near everything.

Thanked: 335Eric,
YOU went to OHIO!?!?!? That is not unlike being able to say that, "I trod with the gods." If we ever get a frozen tundra get-together together will you present a presentation for the benefit of all us rubes?

The same blade as the MOP (Stainless #41) is available
on the SS Pearlex. This is a great razor, my favourite so
far.

I have noticed this too, especially for the 5/8 which is very well-reviewed and recommended (not only) for starters, here and on other sites. CS frequently runs out of stock, which is not surprising since their price is $25 lower than everyone else's. I have a feeling that will not be true for much longer, so if only for that reason, I would pick that one up first. If you don't like it, I am sure many would love to take it off your hands.

If I could go back I would get the 6/8. I might just buy a 6/8 and make it a set.
