Thanked: 0Witch Dovo to get
Gentlemen,
I ‘m interested to buy a new Dovo straight, my choice is narrowing down between two models, the Special tortoise 6/8 and one of the razor with the S.S . blade such as the MOP, actually I find this one especially attractive but I am reading good reviews about the Special Tortoise. If you happened to try both of them I will appreciate if you could give me you feed back and explain the comparison between them, any feed back or recommendation on one of them will be appreciated. I am not expecting to get more than one Dovo therefore I would like to buy the most interesting one.
thanks and have a great day
Norm.

the dovo special is my first straight razor and it's great! I can't compare them to the other dovos but I bought it from a cutlery store, went home, stropped it up and started shaving. For my first time with a straight it was sublime. No nicks, razor burn and I never had a closer shave (up to that time). I know it's not supposed to be shave ready out of the box but this razor glided on my face like butter. I've had about 5 shaves with it and it gets better and better.

Thanked: 335Norm,
Remember, advice freely given is worth the purchase price. That caution given, my vote goes to the 6/8 turtle. I have one, like it a lot, and it is in my morning's shaving rotation. I have another Dovo SS, the 6/8 Renaissance and bought it legitimately shave ready. When received it didn't give the smoothest shave and I have further touched it up, somewhat improving the shave, but it still does not shave as smoothly as the turtle. Hence I much prefer the carbon steel Dovo and am a sucker for the nifty scales of the faux tortise. I also feel that for me the larger blade is easier to handle, but your hands and face are certainly different than mine so the size of the blade is something that you have to determine for yourself.
good shaving,

I have a Blackstar, an Ebenholz and a Bergischer Lowe and love them all. I'd really like to try a Special but just haven't gotten around to picking one up yet......but the reviews I've read on it have been very good!

I sure like the look of the Tortoise classic, I might be inclined
to purchase it to accompany my SS Pearlex should I miss out
on the Livi buy

Thanked: 0Interesting comments, generally speaking it seems that the Dovo special is always having positive review but the SS blade has mixed reviews. Before I make up my mind I will be particularly interested to hear about Dovo SS blade number 41 such as the MOP unless every Dovo SS blades feel the same, is there any users ???
Thanks
Norm.

I have the Mircata Dovo (SS) and also the "Best Class" Dovo (SS). The former is a 'good' shaver and the latter is 'better'. As for 'bang for your buck' you can not go wrong with the 6/8" carbon steel faux tortise Dovo. It's a very good shaver!

So true, crichton
Sorry, couldn't resist poking some fun. But the truth is, you won't really know until you try out both. So, pick the one you fancy more, and sooner or later you'll really want to try out the other and will. Then you'll know for sure and if you don't want to keep both, I'm certain you won't have hard time finding a taker.

AL I will say is that the t-shell special is my best seller, I cannot get enough of them, quite literally - stock comes in and is gone in days! I like the way they hone up and have had nothing but positive comments about them. I'd go for that one as a starter, no doubts.
