Gugi, I saw that razor and what Livi did. I was thinking either that or freehanding it like a knife.

As for the corn razor thing I really don't think it is one. Any corn razor I have ever seen in life is bigger than this and has a different shaped blade. They usually look like THIS. This one looks like it was specifically made to look like a regular straight only smaller. And Krusius Brothers did make straights. Any other ideas?

One other thing I was thinking was that it was some kind of promotional item to advertise the company. Like when a company makes a "miniature" copy of their product to hand out at conventions and what not. I dunno.

I guess we should listen to the man with the line of beavers in front of his house

Alex, I very much doubt you can put a shaving edge freehand, but if you must try it I'm sure we'll be interested in the results...

I was thinking that too. I like the ideas of using a q-tip or I was thinking toothpick as a make-shift frame if I don't make a permanent one. I'll see what happens.

    First, Hello Group!

Being a newbie, I may be jumping in way over my head with both feet with this (probably) crazy idea , but hey - that's why I took up shaving with a straight razor in the first place!

How about slitting a small straw (something like a coffee stirrer) and sliding it over the spine. It might improve the angle enough to try honing.

BTW, you guys rock! Studying the information in this forum has helped me really enjoy taking up the blade.

I made a brass spine for the razor and honed out the chip at the front of the blade. Also, evened out the edge a little. I will post pictures and stuff when I try to hone it. It's turned into my Beaver Cleaver Project. Thanks Dennis. lol

Actually, with the brass spine, it looks nice! Kinda like a mini-frameback. Looks a lot like the Engstrom I restored recently.

    Philadelph,

I can put a freehand shaving edge on it for you if you want to cover shipping.

You could, I believe, do it yourself with the toothpick or Livi idea.

EDIT: nm, I just saw your "brass spine" post. Problem solved.
