Thanked: 4942I have always liked the American made razors and have been saying so since the SRP yahoo days. Some of the very best shavers out there. Waterville, Clauss, Cattaraugus, Genco, Torrey, King, Maher, Geneva and a ton more. The hard part is finding them in decent shape.
Can't wait till someone starts manufacturing them here again........
Have fun,
Lynn

Do any of the US makers make a heavier blade?
I'm not asking about grind, but about some girth in the shank, a more beefy blade overall? I'm already a convert to US steel. That most are plain jane, daily drivers doesn't bother me at all, though finding one nicely embellished is a constant hope.

Sigh...
That was well aimed. Yes, I want one. And it makes me very glad to hear most peeps are finding them entirely worthy of respect & regular use. I was split between an almost unused Hart, and a Wacker. I was spooked by the normal issues - less known, less likely to recover purchase price if I didn't like it, other better names can be had for the money. I think all of these arguments are true (for now), but I keep wanting the Hart, or some guys like them - to make excellent blades in this country. Unlike the price point Hart is in - I'd like to see them do more like the old US blades - make killer quality at a low price point also. 'Sorta like the late 60s muscle cars - Performance everyone can afford. Even if they keep a higher end offering - find a way to do Genco/Robeson quality at the low end of the cost range.

Thanked: 190I wanted a new American Steel, American Made straight razor, so I ordered one up from Robert Williams. If I could find an old American Steel and American Made razor in good condition, I would get that one too.
I am tempted to play with some chinese made straight razors to see how they perform and take an edge and write up a comparison to the straight razors I currently have which are mainly Dovo, TI's, and one RW. I am betting that some other SRP member already has this experience and can weigh in.

Thanked: 13245Look for the Torrey's you will find some heavier stuff there...
Clauss and King like Lynn mentioned have some bigger heavier stuff
Some of the Ohio and Connecticut makers have some heavier razors too...
I think you also have been missing some makers out there because many of the American razors are some of the most "Bling Bling" stuff out there when it comes to scales...

I own and really like my Hart Steel Razor.
I just thought I would point out that it looks like they are now being offered with jimps. Just saw one razor on CS that has jimps.
This is good to see as it shows they are still working to improve their product and offer something that we shavers want.

I have 7 or 8 Robesons in varying conditions. Except for one that had a cracked blade, all have "loved the hones" and sharpened up nicely, all shave very nicely. I also enjoy the whole Robeson story, their marketing efforts--"a razor for every face" and how they characterized their blades (moderate beard, nervous man, etc).
I also have a Genco that was kinda hard to hone, just took a long time, but is also a superb shaver along with a couple of Torreys.
