    Default Any ideas on this?

I picked up this blade at an antique store today and was wondering if anyone had any ideas about it. Camera batteries are dead so I will post picks when I get new ones.
The blade is a 6/8 spike point, I think ( top rounded at the spine, comes to a square point at the edge)
The blade has a little tarnish in spots but it doesn't seem to have ever seen a hone. Thats from a definite newbie, I dont see any hone wear or scratches
On the back of the tang it says
    The Genco Co.
    Bradford, PA.
at the tip of the tang it says
    US 1951

On the front of the tang it only has

    < HONOR >

Has anyone seen one like this?
Or any idea if it was for a special reason, commerating of an event maybe?

over the years manufacturers have etched all sorts of things into the blade as marketing. i have bladed with senator, imperial, warranted, celebrated and our best... just to name a few

genco was originally "Geneva cutlery" located in Geneva NY, but over the years and mergers it became genco and moved to Bradford pa... home of zippo and iirc case.

and like Ilija says below, mighty fine shavers.

AFIK Genco is from Geneva, NY. Maybe they opened a production facility in PA. In any case, one of my top 3 blades is a Genco, so you probably snagged a nice one. If you have some spare cash lying around, get it professionally restored and honed. You'll pass it onto your great-grandson and it'll be his lifetime favourite before he hones it down to resemble most e-bay specials (after another few decades of shaving).

When I saw this one I decided that it is going to be restored and put with a kit and given to my son. He's right now in Army basic in S.C. and by the time he gets home it will be the end of August so I've got a few months. The hard part is trying to decide on the type of scales. I'm starting to go through the restore section to see whats been made so far. Possibly something inlayed with his initials and the Army star, who knows.
