INOX Steel???
I was looking at the 8/8 friodur at the shavingshop.com but I was wondering about that steel. It is cryo finished stainless. Opinions?

Thanked: 335If you like big blades, it should be the bees knees. I bought a very similar 7/8 razor from Vintage Blades (I have RAD really BAD, thought I HAD SAD, still have it/them...) and looked at and tested the edge as it came, gave it a couple of swipes on a homemade Cr2O3 paddle and shaved with it. Smooth, comfy, and close. Personally I think the 8/8 is too much for me, but again if you like the big blades, I think you'll like that razor.
Cryo finished? I don't have a clue. Ask John.

Thanked: 150Stainless is often regarded as being a little touchy when honing, and maybe not as smooth as carbon steel on the face. Though many people love them.
And I haven't tried one, so I can't say for sure.

I have a Wacker INOX. Although I paid extra to have someone at shavingshop.com I didn't feel it was sharp enough. I proceeded to give it 10 strokes on a Spyderco Ultra-Fine followed with 10 strokes on a chromium pasted strop each night until I had the edge I wanted. It took about 4 days of this sequence.
I don't normally use a linen strop on my carbon steel blades but I've found that the INOX responds well to about 15 strokes on linen followed by 30 on leather.
All in all, it took a little effort but I find I can get a very good shave with it. I now consider it one of the top 3 or 4 of my dozen or so razors.

Thanked: 735I have the 7/8 roundpoint from Shaving shop. Put a nice edge on it, and it shaves great!
Same with the 7/8 spanish point from Vintage.
I have only had acouple of shaves with a non-stainless blade, so I can't really compare, but I have no problems whatsoever with the Inox!

Thanked: 1I have an Inox Wacker and it is pretty tough to hone. It shaves great the first time after being honed, but the metal seems pretty soft and it gets dull quickly. If I had to do it all over again I would stick to carbon.

Thanked: 155INOX is just another name for stainless steel. It is commonly used in Europe, less so in the US.

Thanked: 735NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Don't listen to the carbonista propaganda!
Honing? Well, how about staining/rusting?
Egads!
OK, that being said. I do love my two Friodurs, but I am quite interested in some of the high carbon content TI's
I'm also restoring an old LeGrelot (lots of rusting, lots of sanding) to see how a carbon blade performs.
Buy what you like, it's all good in one way or another.
