needed: Meat Chopper advice!!
Okay, pursuant to my last post asking about INOX, I am wanting to get a bigger blade and there are several but I am between the Mella High Class 101 and the Solingen "best silver steel" Both are 7/8s and Carbon steel (I have given up on an 8/8 in carbon for now, saw one option on classicshaving but it is plain jane) Check em out and lemme know what you would do!
Mella
Solingen
I really just want to know which would be a better investment in case I have to part with it down the road. Also, I am not familiar with the Mella name.Last edited by sicboater; 04-03-2008 at 06:40 PM.

if you're just looking for show the mella hands down. both are high carbon steel and in Like New condition so IMO it would be a toss up. if you're looking for resale value the names will always draw a higher price, but this is the case with the initial purchase too. i.e. you pay more to start with.
both are 7/8, square point, 3 pins, etched, the only difference i see is the Mella looks to have a longer monkey tail and some people prefer wood scales to celluloid.
i'll close by telling you i am in now way shape or form an expert and this is nothing more then my personal opinions and observations. if it were me and i was intending on reselling it down the road i would go with the Solingen. but to keep and use i would choose the Mella. i'm going to guess they are equal shavers and it is just more ascetically pleasing.

I think they are both about equal. The Solingen is a generic Solingen so the mella is a brand so it might be half a notch better. Your paying more for the other because of the wood scales but if they both had equal scales the mella would probably cost a little more. The mella would be my choice.

Based on appearances I would choose the mella...I think it's a very good looking razor.

Both are nice, but I vote for the mella as well.

The mella wins the beauty contest to me, but you might want to read this thread first.

If you are looking to resell the razor down the road, wood scales may be the way to go to "protect your investment". They may seem a bit "boring" at first, but simple, classic materials seem to always be in style.
However, if the celluloid scales ever develop a problem, you can always rescale!
All this, of course, is strictly my very humble opinion.
