I like your attitude of honing the razor yourself. The Dovo is not a full hollow, has a good heft, and is stiffer than a full hollow. I like mine and is in my rotation.

Wow! I wish I was confident enough to hone my razor.

Best of luck and enjoy your shave when it lands.

I hope you are as happy with your Dovo Special as I am with mine. They are a good value, and a good shaving razor.
    Best Regards, Ken.

I have not honed that particular TI model, but the dovo special is less difficult to hone. It is also an excellent shaver. Good choice!

    Hi guys,

Today i got it in and already love it. What a beauty she is!

I've honed it myself (on just a coticule) and stropped it. Now, it cuts 7 out of 10 hairs at the HHT with my mothers hair (really fine hair). I shaved a bit of cheek, but felt a bit of tugging. So it's not shave ready i think.

But what i wanted to know, do you get a razor pass the HHT right after the hone or always have to strop first to have it pass the HHT?

Thanks in advance and have a nice weekend!

I'm no honemeister, but most of the time when my razors are in that range (passes the HHT most of the time) I go to the strop. Before I got my CrO from ChrisL, I would do like 200 passes on the linen side of my strop and between 50 and 100 on the leather to get from almost always to always passing the HHT.

The pulling could very well be angle/technique also, if your blade is sharp enough to pass the HHT most of the time. Make sure you test the entire length of the blade, to make sure that one portion isn't sharp and others less so. Then experiment with your angle. Different portions of my face require different angles, and I'm still getting the technique and angle variables ironed out.

But congrats on your decision and your progress so far

    Hi Alex,

Thanks for your quick reply! Last time a shaved i felt tugging, but probably my angle was to big (50 degrees probably), but now, i've shaved at about 20 degrees, can a blade also feel tugging when you've got the blade at a too small angle?

Only being a newbie myself, I can't probably answer this as well as some of the more experienced guys, but it would seem to me that depending on your beard, a too-low angle could also pull a little.

Anybody wiser than me want to step in here? I think we've just reached the limits of my limited experience.

The extra stropping has worked! I stropped it about 100 times on the linen and then 70 times on the leather and then it would pass the HHT 9 out of 10 times. I did a few more strokes on the coticule with the tip (to get the tip also pass the HHT), then did about 20 laps very lightly, then stropped again in the same routine and now it passes the HHT 10 out of 10 hairs, even the thinnest ones that i could find in the brush! So i'm very pleased! Hope it's shave ready now.

I don't know what i did wrong with the inox Dovo that's now being honed by Lynn, as i couldn't get it just right.

    Thanks guys!
