Thread: Which one would you choose?

I'm going to spend some cash on one more (new) razor. I would like to know which one would you choose and why?

If I had to choose between the two, I would pick the one that's not out-of stock.

I would look at The Super Gnome also. It's a half hollow grind, a lot of folks seem to prefer the stiffer grinds.

The 6/8 tortoise is not out of stock. I've heard nothing but good about the DOVO Specials...

An emphatic +1 on this! I made this choice when I started out.

Why? (What I think)

1. All the research I did before I bought suggested that I'd like a 6/8 better than a 5/8 . . . better on wiry hair, more swipes before clearing off lather, blah blah (in practice, I get excellent shaves from either, but I like the feel of the 6/8, and if any part of the shave is having a positive attitude, then seeing the bigger blade in action geeks me up ).

2. It looked cool!

I bought the 6/8 tortoise, got it sharpened by Lynn, and it is superb! I like the looks, the heft, and the results.

Bottom line (What you should do):

Get whichever one you think will make you smile every time you pick it up.

Gent......for what it's worth, I'm starting to accumulate razors at a pretty
good clip.

I don't know if it was just a fluke, but this razor was truly "shave-ready" right out of the box !.........just the normal "before-shave" stropping was
all it needed !

Of course, I'm still somewhat new to all of this.....but if a novice like me can actually get a respectable shave from a brand-new razor.....
that made me happier than a tornado in a trailer-park !

I had exactly this decision to make, between these same 2 razors.

In the end I opted for the Thiers Issard. (Awaiting its arrival at present)

From my research:-

Both razors are held in quite high regard at their price point.

Thiers Issard are generally accepted to have the harder blade, and are probably the manufacturer held in higher esteem. That said, there have been a number of complaints with respect to the quality/finish of the scales. I believe there are no such issues with the blade and ultimately that is what is the most important.

Ultimately, I don't think you could go wrong with either. So as they say, 'The choice is yours for the making'.

Both are excellent and are great deals for the money. I think you'll be happy with either one.

Good to hear, but I hope you have not forgotten sharpening (because a shave-ready out of the box is really not that common, supposedly)
