Old_School, you'll be filing for awhile on hardened steel. It won't be worth your time. I don't care for them, I think they look goofy and don't change your grip.

I'll ask you two simple questions.
Why would the manufacturer of a mass produced product add jimps?
Why do the best/classiest/top of range razors always have jimps?

Even today. I ask you to look at the new ranges of DOVO and TI razors. Why do the best products have a grip on the blade.

The answer is because a grip is better, easier to hold and gives you less chance of slipping in your hold at a critical moment.

No not essential I agree. A bit like ABS disc breaks on a car. Not essential but they may save your life (or your skin).

So don't be surprised why razors with gimps sell for a higher price.

It's because they are safer, usually top of the range and likely better.

    IMHO.

    IMHO.

Actually there are many vintage high end razors that don't have them. As I recall no Double Ducks have em and many Pumas don't either. I have some Dovo's that don't either. Tim Zowada doesn't use them either as does Mr Williams on many of his and my TI Damascus does not have them.

    Its really a style thing.

Like em, prefer razors with them. Functional with good grip like Joh Engstrom frame backs feel the best.

    Kind regards,
