Antique store Dovo... Whaddaya think guys? Gem or no?
All of the pics can be seen in my album under a similar name as this thread. How did I do for my first time treasure-hunting? Any idea what she's worth or how old?
Adam
p.s.:Only flaw I can see is the nick in the blade that you can see in the pic on the top right. You have to look closely. Would someone show me how to link to my album, please?Last edited by CDpyroNme; 05-09-2008 at 10:39 AM. Reason: can't figure out how people will view my album even though it's public. <-- Tard

How well you did depends on the sale price, but that is a very nice razor.
Should probably give you excellent shaves.
As for worth... I don't know.
I have no idea what a vintage dovo is worth. I never bother with minty vintage razors so I have no idea.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 586That is not a "vintage" razor. It is a DOVO Pearlex and is currently offered at the Knife Center:

I bought the exact same razor in the exact same box. The photo you'll see via the link shows gold wash on the tang but the razor I received is the same as the razor you just bought. Considering I paid the full price of $119.95, I'd say you got a better deal than I did. It is a very nice little razor.

The only difference I see is the front tang inscription. Probably an older model or something. Still good to know it's worth more than my buying price plus honing...
So this is what they call RAD, then?
Took care of the title change. I won't be making a habit out of it for everyone, but you make a compelling argument. My apologies...Last edited by CDpyroNme; 05-09-2008 at 12:53 PM. Reason: amends

My bad.
Since it came from an antique shop (and the scales looked a bit discolored, which may have been from the lighting instead of age) I assumed it was vintage.
For 35$ it is definitely a nice find.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 735Do the new ones say Fritz bracht on the back of the tang as well?
Anyhow, $35 is a score in anyone's book. That chip will take a little work, but no big deal.

Nice score Adam!
The nick will need to come out but I don't think it looks too bad. Great price on a great razor.
As far as your title goes...I feel compelled to request publicly and not in a more quiet PM that you drop the word "enthusiast" and add another "fire" with two exclamation points.
It should read: FIRE! FIRE!
That way no one will know if you're hollering out a warning or enthusiastically chanting praise.
If and when I decide that you must change your title again, I will let you know in another public post in an otherwise unrelated thread. Be forewarned.

Fritz Bracht took over as general manager of Dovo in the late 30's. The model 41 is a pre-WWII stainless steel. The current market value for a non restored or not shave ready is at $54.00.
Problems with these old INOX Dovos is inconsistent hardening. It needs to be honed up and tested to be sure that it is a good one.
I have restored these and have had good success with them.
