aggrivation
im new to the straight razor nd i need help and advice. i tried to find an actual razor but where i live the only choice is online and they are kinda costly. so i guess my first questions would have to be where can i get a good razor at a decent price, dont get me wrong if i had the money i would pay it but i dont. next what all do i need to get just to start i know the hone and strop. is there anything else that i need. last question is simply this i can sharpen a knife to a perfect edge is there a difference with sharpening a razor. oh just for general info at this point n time i have one of those fromm deals with disposable blades. it works but i would rather use a true straight. if you have any advice that i did not ask about feel free to enlighten me. tanks ad i appreciate it

Thanked: 2209Your best bet is the Buy/Sell/Trade forum here on the SRP. Make sure to get one that is honed and shave tested. You really need to feel what a truly sharp str8 razor feels like before you start honing. You need a benchmark standard to compare to your honing results.
Knife sharpeneing is different than razor honing. Some of the skills are transferable but the touch is very different. The coarsest hone we use is a 1000 grit and we finish on a 8000-10,000 or finer grit.
The tools you need are a razor, plain leather hanging strop and an abrasive pasted paddle strop. The paddle strop heps to refresh a dulling edge. When that is no longer sufficient then you need a hone.
