    Default Blade Identity

    Hi Folks,

I only starting using a straight razor about a month ago so I got my self a disposable Dovo of Solingen blade Just to try it out before buying a full blade. I was back home there last week (Ireland) and got talking about shaving with my father and as it turns out he has had a blade in a draw from about 20 years maybe longer as he cant exactly remember where or when he got it.

I just bought Bill Ellis book so that I can restore it and was just wonder if anyone knew of the make of blade. I will put up pics as soon as I can.

The markings on the blade are

    "Colinger Made in Germany"

    and on the other side

    "Fanger 500"

It also has a metal marking sticker on one of the scales. It looks like a man with a trumpet and under it has the words "Registered".

Just wondering if anyone knows of the make as I cannot find anything on the Internet.

    Cheers

That really does look like it says Colingen... lol. Maybe that's between Solingen and Cologne?

Seriously though, restoring that blade is going to take some work. I think cleaning and honing them is fun, and that one will be a real good time.

It's cool that it is your dad's razor, it has some extra character. Be sure and post some pics when it gets cleaned up!

I can see the S of Solingen is there. Lots of hand sanding but could be made usable.
    Good luck

I haven't tried restoring anything in that rough of shape. I'd be curious to see what happens. Let us know.
