    Default Stories of RAD

I started using straights about 4 months ago and i have since bought 7 (5 for me and 2 for a friend). I see in threads such as gssixguns "the shave den is back" where people post pictures of their collections of razors, brushes, and shaving paraphenalia and i am in shock and awe! The people on this forum have VERY nice razors and lots of them. All in all on straight razor stuffs i believe i've spent close to four or five hundred dollars which leads me to ask several questions:

    1. How much total do you believe you have spent on your collection
    2. About how much do you spend annually on your addiction?
    3. Why are they all so pretty and enticing?
    4. How long has it taken you to amass your collection?
    5. For those of you with massive collections...what does the missus say about it/get in return?

    1. The six that I keep in my rotation have run me about $400, though one was a gift so I'm not counting that. I have a bunch more in the to-be-honed pile, couldn't say off the top of my head what they've all cost.

    2. I started in Feb, but I couldn't really say how much I've spent in total. I have "made" back some of the money I've spent by doing light resto and honing razors, but as we all know, you never "make" money to make up for the time that goes in. Not to mention the vaious hones and whatnot also cost money.

    3. I find razors attratcive because I like all sorts of metal hardware. In my other hobby (computers) I loved to look at clean, well put together computers (especially heatsinks).

    4. Initially, I bought a lot of less expensive razors in order to experiment with what type I liked. Of the six that I have now, I believe the Red Imp is the oldest; I believe from March. I have gotten more and more selective since then; buying one or two here and there and keeping the ones that I really like.

    5. I guess that doesn't apply since I don't have a massive collection or a missus.

    1. How much total do you believe you have spent on your collection
I don't know the exact amount, but it's under 500 Euros.

    2. About how much do you spend annually on your addiction?
I still don't know because it dependes. Sometimes I feel that I won't buy any razor, but I always end up finding something that catches my attention. But I don't think I'll buy anything expensive (200+ Eur). I prefer to buy razors to restore. But who knows what I'll do next!

    3. Why are they all so pretty and enticing?
I can't explain that. I don't know what makes me from logging in SRP several times a day, what makes me browsing eBay, what makes me go to all the flea markets where I live and the other towns near mine. It's an addiction "Hello my name is Leon and I'm an addict to straight razors", then you say "Hi, Leon".

    4. How long has it taken you to amass your collection?
I just started a couple of years ago, so it took 2 years.

    5. For those of you with massive collections...what does the missus say about it/get in return?
I don't have a massive collection because the wife would kill me in the first place. If she didn't I think I couldn't buy loads of razors because that's not who I am.

This is so true. Many of us enter this straight razor world thinking that in the long run they'll save some money, but short after beginning, they know they get RAD and so much for that theory...

    1. How much total do you believe you have spent on your collection
Bought 1 new razor for 135, then 200 on about 17 or 18 resto candidates
    2. About how much do you spend annually on your addiction?
Only a couple of months so far.
    3. Why are they all so pretty and enticing?
Anything that uses fine steel, and exotic materials is pretty and enticing
    4. How long has it taken you to amass your collection?
I will be finished with all the restos in about a year
    5. For those of you with massive collections...what does the missus say about it/get in return?
To watch my hands kept busy...lol

    1. How much total do you believe you have spent on your collection?
So far, approximately USD 1.600 including a full set of hones. That is for 15 razors. All I can say is, thank you very much, SRP! Got all but two NOS Wackers (anyone want two 4/8ths NOS Wackers? (1, 2)), for which I paid a blasted fortune, from SRP, and they are all excellent shavers. Many thanks to Coully, Sharp & Shiny, Max-S and all the extremely competent, patient, and helpful people on the #srp IRC channel.

    2. About how much do you spend annually on your addiction?
At the current going rate, something like USD 2.500.

    3. Why are they all so pretty and enticing?
Because they are big, black, and dangerous.

    4. How long has it taken you to amass your collection?
Nine months and 28 days. Not that I would call 15 a mass, though.

    5. For those of you with massive collections...what does the missus say about it/get in return?
Now then. By female standards, 15 are a mass. The wife's latest comment was "give me that credit card, or else...". What she got in return was an addendum to my bathroom to clean.

    1. How much total do you believe you have spent on your collection

If I include meetup events, then I've spent about a thousand dollars on everything straight razor related and thousands of hours of course. I've spent about $500 on the 20 or so razors I have.

    2. About how much do you spend annually on your addiction?

I estimate $150 for next year

    3. Why are they all so pretty and enticing?

I don't think they are by shave den standards, although some of them are big and old. That's nice

    4. How long has it taken you to amass your collection?

    five months

    5. For those of you with massive collections...what does the missus say about it/get in return?

She says, "Keep them in the shaving bag so I don't have to look at them on the countertop." I don't think she gets anything in return for my collection. We love each other regardless

I had it bad this month. With all the ancillary razor stuff as well as razors- I kinda went alittle overboard this month. $1000 or so. The rest of the questions-I'll have to ponder for a while........

On the other hand: 1) you can't take it with you. 2) I'm married 24 years to a woman that makes more money than I do. 3) No kids 4) Not allowed/motivated and to crippled to spend my loot on other women. 5) They generally don't include an armored car to take your remaining cash to your grave in the funeral procession.6) I already bought enough guns this year.7) You can be dead tomorrow-you might as well be shaved right and tight!!

Actually, Razors are probably the cheapest of my hobbies.. AND you can actually USE them EVERYDAY-regardless of the weather.

How did I do? See its all justified.
