Thanked: 0Razor Identification
I've been using a DE razor for the last 6 months and was interested in making the switch to a straight. I was helping a friend clean out her parent's house after her mother passed, and found this straight sitting in the bedside cabinet. She let me keep it, but I'd like some info on it before I send it off to Lynn for honing.
The box is cardboard wrapped in black paper with gold print on the top that reads 'Hollow Ground Razor' across the length and 'Made in Germany Solingen' across one end. The razor itself appears to have scales made of marbled yellow and red plastic. The 7/8 blade is hollow ground, has a rounded edge, and 'Finest Magnetic Steel' printed across the front of it. The tang says 'Solingen Made in Germany' on one side and 1400 OMOR on the other.
Sorry for the quality of the pics... All I had was my cell phone available and apparently it was on the smallest setting. I can look for my camera to get bigger/better pics later if need be.
Anyone have any idea what I have and if it's worth getting shave ready?
Thanks in advance!

It looks to be in very good condition and if honed would most likely make a very good shaving razor.

Thanked: 0I did see that in the wiki and in a few posts around here, but I also see where less reputable manufacturers will put 'Solingen' on their blades even if they were forged elsewhere. I Googled for a while last night, but my searches for OMOR came up with a World of Warcraft character and a line of chic fashions for pregnant women.

OMOR Germany 1950 to 1960
OMOR Stainless Steel J-258 Japan 1950 to 1960
OMOR Pakistan 1960 to 1970
This is all the information I could find! It looks like you might have the good one!
