You won't find much info because in the olden days, a razor was about as interesting as a toothbrush now, only more expensive Most people would not have thought SR were worth writing about, and the percentage of people who could read / write was much smaller. Lack of internet, and a tendency to keep in depth information secret make it very hard to find anything other than general info about the maker itself.
For starting out, I think something like 5/8 - 6/8 is the ideal size. Once you have the hang of that, you will also have a feeling whether you like bigger or smaller.
For grind I think hollow ground is easiest, because they are easier to learn to hone (if you want to learn to do that yourself).Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

If I could get my TI sharp, I could tell you. Seriously, my Dove Prima Klang was not too hard to sharpen. My Filarmonica sharpened like a dream. My Le Grelot full 3/4 hollow not too hard to sharpen and shaves like a dream. The TI? still working on it. What I have noticed it that it is a much "stiffer" feel to it and very hard. The TI's can be very beautiful razors, and truthfully they have a more "handmade" feel to them. Both are great razors!

Thanked: 45Generally, TI razors have harder steel and take longer to hone. It is worth the effort when you finally get there. The same can be said for other extra hard carbon steels, like the Swedish steel used in the Bergischer Lowe for example. I used to use a seven day set of TI 6/8 Eagles, but the maintenance of seven of those blades finally had me place them on the Wall of Shame.
Now my daily shaver is harder still, but at least there's just the one, and not seven of them!

I have 3 Thiers Issard razors and although I like my Filarmonica 13 the best, they are all excellent shavers.

Thanked: 735GAAAARHG!
Why not just kick me in the nuggets?!
"I have seven of these beauties, but it's just too much upkeep....thus I must make due with this lowly damascus custom...."
OK, I think I've recovered....
Dr. Moss, have you ever tried diamong lapping film for honing? It is quite different than the DMT plates (it is much, much smoother), and I'm positive it would have no problem honing up even the hard steel of your TIs.
