can I ask then, is this more of a collector thing? at that price point a custom can be had from chandler, harner or Josh for instance. I understand collectability and investment, just wondering from a shaving standponit if you'll get as good or better with a custom?

Red, I have one and it is a good shaver but I think that the inflated value is due to the collector rather then it being better then any other Duck. IMO ... FWIW Here is a pic of one right after I opened the package. I paid $100.00 for this one and it cleaned up and honed up nice but I would say I was lucky to get it for that even in that condition.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I have to assume mostly collectors are the ones driving up the prices to whatever a collector deems fair value. Leaves me out, but this is the nature of that game. Just another example of the cancer of our day and age – anything can become collectable if someone has too much expendable cash and needs to feel important. Another thing I see frequently on Ebay - Prices for not rare items being pushed up over retail by people who don’t really know what they are buying and just assume Ebay is a deal. I suppose this can happen with straight razors too.
