I bought mine from Kenrup, and mine shaves well. I'm a newbie, so I dont have too much else to go on, except one other blade I have.

I have some GDs on the way. I'll be going into full production: thumbnotches, worked backs, Szechuan points, the works.

I am also getting a couple of their stainless model for evaluation purposes.

The Gold Dollars are doing pretty well. I worked with the manufacture about quality control and better finishing. He still says they are shave ready. They are not. This is a 60x photo of the stock blade. Notice the straight scratch marks. A sure sign of machine honing. The bevel to belly line is not very clean. The edge is also rather rough.

This is a shot of a honed Gold Dollar.
I circled the bevel to belly line and the flat of the bevel. It does take a great edge.

The quality control is significantly better then what we saw earlier. The scales are better aligned and the pinning is improved with fewer bent pins. I still finish the pins. The one problem that the Gold Dollar has now is that the heel of the razor often protrudes below the scales with the blade is closed. I'm grinding heel to a smoother and shallower curve. I am very pleased with the quality of the steel. It hones great and still holds a great edge. As with any razor, the better your stropping technique the better your edge performs and lasts.

I do reject some of the razors for either poor scales or bent blade. I am rescaling the good blades. I'm experimenting on the rejected blades.

It took me four months to setup the deal with the manufacture to get them. Talk about headaches!!!!!!! I will continue to import the Gold Dollar.
