Default Repair For An Old Family Blade?

I have recently stumbled upon an old Charlescraft Solingen No.501 5/8 silver steel blade from germany which belonged to my grandfather. It definitely shows it's years from the lite rust stains on the blade all the way to the tattered case. It has a beautifuly detailed handle with some sort of nature scene on it, but is negated by the giant chip in the blade. I have included photos, although I am no photographer..
I am wondering if anyone could tell me if it is at all possible to restore the blade and possibly make it functional again? I would appreciate any input. Even a little more information on the razor would be wonderful!

    Thanks!

I'm not an expert in resto but I would say it is shot. Too close to the spine to regrind that one and have a usable shaver. I may be wrong, I was wrong once before.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I would unfortunately have to agree with Jimmy on this one, I could take that blade down and actually maybe make it functional but it is not going to be anything near what it was... If it were mine I would hunt down another blade that is as similar as possible, and put the heirloom scales on it, at least that way you keep part of the heritage intact...

    My 2 cents is spent

Thanks for the replies, although it saddens me a little to read them.
Any idea where I would be able to find a comparable blade?

    Thanks

Can you measure from the point of the blade to the pivot pin???? and let me know what that size is???

Also when the razor is closed there will be a slight gap from the wedge to the front edge of the blade, normal is about 1/8 inch could be tighter could be wider just kinda guess that for me....

From the pivot to the tip is 4 and 1/2 inches and the gap is 1/8 inch.. sorry for the late reply.

    Thanks!

I'll look at what I have tucked away in the restore drawer when I get home, maybe some of the other guys might have one too...
