Lol, your just saying that so you can see it. No peeking!

Faux tortoiseshell, realigned them already. Blades nice and centered now. PLUS! They took the realignment so well, that the water didn't leave any white marks! Big plus. Normally have to MAAS out the darned white marks when I do that.

I am saying that if the tortoise is celluloid you may have cell rot wich would account for the rusting. Now that you have cleaned it up it will be harder to tell for sure, but you'll know if it starts rusting again!
As a precautionary measure, I would advise that you dont store it with your other razors until you know for sure.

I've seen celluloid rot. The rust is only on the spine, where the gold wash is, so the gold wash has to go. The craftsman logo has some rust too, so thats going to go, but thats personal choice. Thanks for your concern though.

I avoid gold washed razors like the plague. I don't have the heart to remove it deliberately because I don't want to alter the character of an antique but it's an absolute pain to avoid removing it accidentally.

celluloid rot... that sounds scary. I've heard of it and its causing rust but I don't think I've ever seen it.

Anyone have pictures of what celluloid rot looks like?

The Dr. gave me an ointment for it, but it still itches like crazy.

I hear you can get celluloid rot from truckstop toilets. At least that's what I keep telling my wife.

    Wait...what?
